10 September 2014

Breakfast:
Green tea, pb, apples
Lunch:
Mint tea, baby carrots w/hummus
Curried veggies & goat cheese wrap
(Bad proportions - I love spinach, but seriously, this is way too much for a wrap. Also, I must have completely missed the curry flavouring because it was not there at all. Aside from the natural flavours of the veggies, the goat cheese was the only other contributor - no curry at all. A rather disappointing wrap.)
 Dinner:
Spinach, cucumber slices w/pepper, barley mint salad, brown rice, hemp seeds, baby carrots, cherry tomatoes, roasted veggies, edamame, chickpeas
Late Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration:
Assortment of dessert mooncakes that Marie brought back from Hong Kong!
(We were supposed to celebrate on Monday, but the moon's timing did not sync with ours.)
Milk chocolate almond raspberry mooncake (ate 1/6)
(A rather mediocre milk chocolate raspberry chocolate bar in a fancy shape. The teeniest bits of almond provided a minor texture contrast while the overly tart raspberries shocked the tastebuds and clashed with the sweet milk chocolate.)
Dark chocolate mixed berries mooncake (ate 1/6)
(The mixed berries filling was more enjoyable than the dried raspberry bits in the previous mooncake. I didn't like the filling to chocolate ratio though; there was way too much filling and it overpowered the bittersweet chocolate.)
Dark chocolate bunny (didn't eat)
Milk chocolate mango cheese mooncake (ate 1/4)
(The first one we cut open because it sounded the most intriguing. This was utterly creamy from both the chocolate and filling, with the most subtle streak of tart mangoes, but sadly dominated by sugar. The sweetest and most dense of all the dessert mooncakes.)
64% dark chocolate custard mooncake
(My favourite of the bunch! The outside had a more cakey consistency and the inside was a scrumptious dark chocolate filling. While it was a bit dry, this was much more palatable than all the others and the dense chocolate filling wasn't custard-esque at all!)
85% extra dark chocolate custard mooncake
(This was also pretty good, but just a tad bit too much chocolate. I found it overwhelming.)
Red bean mooncake from Claire (ate 1/8)
(My favourite type of mooncake. I love red bean anything really.)
White lotus & egg mooncake from Claire (ate 1/16 w/o the egg)
(I prefer the ones with lotus seeds and I don't eat eggs with the exception of specific conditions, so having a yolk in the center of my cake is a big no.)
Black sesame mooncake from Claire (ate 1/8)
(Very savoury, a bit on the salty roasted side. Also a bit eggy, but that may have been due to the crust.)
